Emotional Literacy Support

At NAGLES therapy, we support children to manage their emotions through a variety of researched based interventions. Emotional literacy is the ability to express our emotions and feelings using speech and other forms of communication. It is an important skill that children need to develop to help establish a stable relationship with their own emotions. We will tailor the therapy to your child's specific needs and decide which programme best suits them. This will involve a conversation about the types of challenges they face. Once all parties agree on the best approach, we will arrange a suitable time and date to start the intervention.

Starving the Anger Gremlin

Is a programme tailored to unpick various forms of anxiety. The programme provides practical tools based on the cognitive behavioural therapy approach. It teaches children how to break the cycle of anxiety by starving the Gremlin of its food - their anxiety.

Talkabout for children

Is an intervention that can help to support self-awareness, self-esteem, social skills and friendship skills in children aged 4 - 11, or children with specific needs. Talkabout uses a hierarchical approach to teaching skills. This means that basic skills are taught first and more complex skills last. An initial assessment would be carried out to determine which Talkabout intervention would best suit your child.

My Hidden Chimp Intervention

My Hidden Chimp helps to explain the neuroscience of the mind in a way that is both understandable and practical for primary age children. The intervention teaches 10 habits which help children to understand how their mind works and what they can do to manage their emotions and behaviour. Some of the learning modules include; understanding the brain, understanding that everyone is unique, the importance of our actions and consequences, distinguishing between an emotion and a thought, how to look after themselves, the importance of making amends and developing strategies for helping them to be the best version of themselves.

Emotional Based School Avoidance - EBSA

May also be know as Emotional Based School Non Attendance or school refuser.

EBSA occurs in children when stress exceeds support and anxiety builds up to the point that a child or young person cannot go to school. We work with the family, child and school to understand the causes or reasons for EBSA. EBSA is most likely to occur when the needs of the individual are not being addressed. Early intervention is vital.
